Any of these sound familiar?

One sibling pays the care home fees
Another covers supplies and appointments
Should the caregiver pay the same?

→ Settle what each sibling paid, by your agreed shares.
Log care home fees, supplies, medical visits and travel. FAMI-KAN works out who owes whom by the shares you agree on. The sibling who lives nearby and does the caregiving can carry a smaller share. No sign up, completely free.

Don't let tedious money calculations ruin a great memory.

Q.

My brother pays the care home, I cover supplies and appointments since I live nearby... who is paying more each month?

A.

Enter each sibling's payments and FAMI-KAN compares them with your agreed shares and shows who owes whom. Use one event per month or keep one running.

Q.

Should the sibling doing the caregiving pay as much as those who live far away?

A.

Set shares such as 1.0 for siblings far away and 0.5 for the caregiver. The time and effort can be reflected in the share, and you can change it any time.

Q.

What about inheritance, legal duties or taxes?

A.

FAMI-KAN only settles what siblings paid. It does not give legal or tax advice; please ask a professional for that.

FAMI-KAN needs no sign-up and no install. Set a ratio once — Adult 1.0, Child 0.5 — and it applies to every expense after that. We compare it with other apps, including where they do better.

Why FAMI-KAN is Best

How siblings share a parent's care costs is a family decision, and it can involve more than money: the sibling who lives nearby and handles appointments is giving time the others aren't. Agreeing on shares, such as 1.0 for siblings who live far away and 0.5 for the one doing the hands-on care, turns that into numbers everyone can see. Say Mark and Lisa live out of state and Ellen lives near Mom. Each month, Mark pays the $3,000 care home fee and Ellen spends $500 on supplies and co-pays. With Mark and Lisa at 1.0 and Ellen at 0.5, the total ratio is 2.5, so the $3,500 comes to $1,400 each for Mark and Lisa and $700 for Ellen. Lisa sends Mark $1,400 and Ellen sends Mark $200. Without a shared record, one sibling can end up quietly carrying more for months. In FAMI-KAN, each sibling logs what they pay from their own phone, with a date and memo, and the settlement shows who owes whom. How your parent's own savings or income are counted, and any legal or tax questions, are for your family and a professional to decide; FAMI-KAN only settles what the siblings paid.

Why we built FAMI-KAN

FAMI-KAN isn't just a calculator. It's a partner that handles the math so you can focus on what matters: "That dinner was amazing", "Where should we go next?" — preserving the afterglow of time well spent together.

The worst part of any trip comes at the very end — when everyone's tired and someone has to sort out the money. Lining up receipts, punching numbers into a calculator, trying to remember who paid what... it brings a cold, transactional feeling to what should be warm memories.

Existing apps are useful, but often too complex or require everyone to install the same app. For family gatherings spanning multiple generations, we needed something simpler — and warmer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Agree on each sibling's share and log who pays what. With two siblings at 1.0 and the caregiver at 0.5, $3,500 a month comes to $1,400, $1,400 and $700, and FAMI-KAN works out the transfers from what each actually paid.

You could split by income, or weigh income and caregiving time together. Ratios can reflect either, for example 1.2 for the highest earner, 1.0 for another sibling and 0.5 for the caregiver. Agree on it together, and revisit it if circumstances change.

That's for your family to agree on. If you include it, log gas, flights or rideshares as payments with a memo, so everyone can see what each trip was for.

Give each payment a category, such as care home, supplies or medical, and sort the History tab by category or by date. A memo on each payment, such as "March co-pay", makes it easier to answer questions later.

Payments from your parent's own money aren't costs the siblings shared, so you can leave them out. How your parent's funds are handled is for your family to decide.

Record each partial payment under "Settled payments". It's deducted from what she owes, and only the remaining balance stays in the settlement.

Yes. You can switch between three views — "Settlement", "By Member" and "By Item". You can see what each person paid and owes, and for any single expense, who is covering how much. Everyone sees why the number is what it is, on the same screen.
