Why FAMI-KAN is Best
Charging kids less at Thanksgiving is reasonable when most of the cost is food and drink: a six-year-old isn't eating like an adult or touching the wine. A ratio such as Adult 1.0, Kid 0.5 and Under 3 at 0 builds that in, so a family of five isn't billed like five adults. Say three households share $480 in groceries. Aunt Mary's family has 2 adults and 2 kids (weight 3.0), Uncle Bob and his wife are 2.0, and cousin Dan comes alone at 1.0. The total is 6.0, so that's $80 per 1.0: Mary's family pays $240, Bob's $160 and Dan $80. If the $90 of wine was only for the adults who drink, enter it separately so households with kids aren't paying for bottles they never opened. Holiday costs get scattered because the turkey, the sides and the pies are bought by different relatives at different stores, sometimes days apart. Half an adult share is an easy starting point, with toddlers at 0. With Adult 1.0 and Kid 0.5, a household of 2 adults and 2 kids counts as 3.0, so out of $480 shared across households totaling 6.0 they pay $240. Adjust the ratios if your kids eat more or less.
Hosting means cooking, cleaning and the oven for a whole day, so a lighter share is a natural way to say thanks. You can lower the host household's ratio or add a Special Rule such as "Host -$25", which takes $25 off their share and spreads it across the other households.
Not necessarily. Enter drinks as their own payment and use "Change shares for this payment only" to give each household a ratio equal to its number of adults who drink. Food keeps the usual adult and kid ratios.
Untick them under "Target Members" on the main dinner and keep them on dessert. They share only what they were there for.
If it's her gift to the family, simply leave the turkey out. Everything else is split as usual.
